US Vice President-elect JD Vance has suggested that the United States could reconsider its support for NATO if the European Union attempts to regulate Elon Musk's social media platforms, including X (formerly known as Twitter). Vance stated, "They should respect American values and free speech if Europe wants us to continue supporting them." He emphasized that European regulation of American tech companies would conflict with free speech principles and could affect the US commitment to European security. In a September interview, Vance made similar remarks warning that NATO support could change if the EU tried to regulate Musk's platforms.
