VisitVistara Merges with Air India After Final Flights; Singapore Airlines Invests Rs 3,194.5 Crore for 25.1% Stake
Nov 11, 2024, 06:50 AM
Vistara, India's luxury airline launched on January 9, 2015, operated its final flights—domestic flight UK986 from Mumbai to Delhi at 10:50 PM and international flight UK115 from Delhi to Singapore—on November 11, 2024, as it merges with Air India. From November 12, Vistara's operations will be unified under the Air India banner, integrating over 4.5 million members, marking a significant consolidation in the Indian aviation industry. Singapore Airlines, which previously held a 49% stake in Vistara, will invest an additional Rs 3,194.5 crore in Air India following the merger, acquiring a 25.1% stake in the combined entity. The merger will result in Air India becoming the sole full-service carrier in India, as IndiGo, the budget airline, plans to offer premium services. This strategic move aims to enhance competition and reshape the competitive landscape in one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets.
