VisitViolence at Notting Hill Carnival: Cher Maximen and Mussie Imnetu Dead
Aug 31, 2024, 02:14 PM
The Notting Hill Carnival, a renowned annual event celebrating Caribbean culture in London, has been marred by violence this year, resulting in two tragic deaths. Cher Maximen, a mother, and Mussie Imnetu, a chef visiting from Dubai, died following separate attacks during the festival. Maximen was stabbed, while Imnetu suffered catastrophic head injuries. The incidents have sparked widespread condemnation and calls for the event to be banned or significantly reformed. London Mayor Sadiq Khan described the violence as shocking and unacceptable, emphasizing that it betrays the values the Carnival was meant to celebrate. The event saw a total of eight stabbings, 230 arrests, 49 weapons seized, and numerous assaults on police officers, including 61 cops assaulted, raising concerns about safety and security measures.
