VisitVikings' J.J. McCarthy, La Grange Park Native, Out for 2024 Season After Meniscus Surgery
Aug 14, 2024, 05:52 PM
Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, a La Grange Park native, will miss the entire 2024 NFL season following surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. The surgery, which was conducted by Dr. Chris Larson at Twin Cities Orthopedics, revealed that a full repair was necessary. Head Coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed the successful procedure and expressed optimism about McCarthy's long-term future with the team, despite the setback. McCarthy, a first-round pick, is the first quarterback drafted in the first round to miss his entire rookie season due to injury since the common draft era began in 1967. The Vikings have faced a series of quarterback injuries in recent years, including Teddy Bridgewater in 2016 and Kirk Cousins in 2023.
