VisitVietnam Files Claim for Extended Continental Shelf Beyond 200 Nautical Miles in South China Sea
Jul 18, 2024, 11:10 AM
Vietnam has filed a claim with the United Nations for an extended continental shelf (ECS) in the South China Sea beyond 200 nautical miles. This move comes a month after the Philippines made a similar submission. Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, and Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai, Vice Chairman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation, presented the submission. China has firmly opposed Vietnam's submission to the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (UNCLCS) and has lodged stern representations to the Vietnamese side.
