Oct 21, 2024, 12:11 PM
Vietnam's National Assembly has elected 67-year-old, four-star General Luong Cuong as the country's new president. Cuong, a member of the Politburo and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, takes over from To Lam, who has held the post since May. This marks Cuong as the fourth president since 2023. Cuong has pledged utmost loyalty to the Communist Party of Vietnam and aims to pursue a foreign policy of independence and multilateralism. His election reinforces the government's collective power-sharing structure. Cuong is also a permanent member of the CPV Central Committee Secretariat and will lead the 100-million-strong nation.
