He was being treated for an acute respiratory tract infection at AIIMS in New Delhi, where his condition was earlier described as 'critical but stable.' Yechury had a long-standing career in Indian politics, starting as a student leader at Jawaharlal Nehru University and rising to become the CPI(M) chief in 2015. His death has prompted condolences from various political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, and Nitin Gadkari, who praised his contributions to public life and his role in national politics. The CPI(M) has lowered its party flag to half-mast in his honor.
