VisitVerstappen Wins US GP Sprint; Sainz Passes Norris for Second Place
Oct 19, 2024, 06:36 PM
Max Verstappen secured his 11th career sprint race victory and fourth of the 2024 Formula 1 season at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, bringing his total to 69% of all sprint wins in F1 history. Verstappen, driving for Red Bull Racing, dominated the 19-lap sprint at the Circuit of the Americas, finishing ahead of Carlos Sainz of Scuderia Ferrari, who overtook Lando Norris of McLaren in the final laps to claim second place. Norris finished third after struggling with tire degradation, stating, "My front tires were completely finished." Verstappen remarked that the race "felt a bit like old times," highlighting Red Bull's renewed performance after his first win since June. Haas F1 Team achieved their best sprint result, with drivers Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg finishing seventh and eighth respectively, both scoring points in their home race. This marked the first time both Haas cars finished in the points in a sprint event. Verstappen's win extends his championship lead, emphasizing his dominance in the sprint format.
