VisitVenezuela's National Assembly Unanimously Approves 'Simon Bolivar Law' Imposing Up to 30 Years in Prison for Supporting U.S. Sanctions
Nov 28, 2024, 08:14 PM
The Venezuelan National Assembly approved in its second reading the 'Simon Bolivar Liberator Organic Law against the Imperialist Blockade and in Defense of the Republic.' President Nicolas Maduro declared that the National Assembly is preparing to approve what he calls the 'True Simon Bolivar Law.' The law, passed unanimously, imposes severe penalties, including up to 30 years in prison, for Venezuelans who support or call for foreign sanctions against the country, implicitly targeting opposition leaders. The legislation aims to defend national sovereignty and counteract sanctions and the economic blockade imposed by the United States. The law will be sent to the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court for further consideration.
