Venezuela Condemns January 10 U.S., U.K., and EU Sanctions Amid Nicolas Maduro's Third Term Inauguration

Venezuela has condemned new sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. These sanctions were announced on January 10, coinciding with the inauguration of President Nicolas Maduro for a third term following a six-month election dispute. General Domingo Hernández Lárez, Commander of the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, described the sanctions as a 'desperate act' and a violation of international law. The Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) officially rejected the sanctions, which were enacted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). The Venezuelan military characterized the actions of foreign powers as an attack on the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people, emphasizing their democratic exercise during the recent elections.
