VisitUS, UK, and Canada Launch Campaign, Sanctions on Three Entities and Two Individuals Tied to Russia's RT
Sep 13, 2024, 05:45 PM
The United States, United Kingdom, and Canada are launching a joint diplomatic campaign to address the threat posed by Russia's state media channel RT. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that RT has moved beyond being a media outlet and now functions like a de facto arm of Russia's intelligence apparatus, with cyber capabilities. Blinken cited new information, much of it from RT employees, indicating that RT is involved in covert activities to destabilize countries and influence elections, including Moldova’s October presidential election. As part of this initiative, the U.S. will impose sanctions on three entities and two individuals connected to Russia's destabilizing actions abroad. The campaign aims to rally allies and partners around the world to counter Russian influence. CNN reports the White House is about to warn the world that RT is much more than a news agency, highlighting the debate between free speech vs spy games.
