VisitUS Treasury Sanctions 10 Individuals, RT Executives Over 2024 Election Interference
Sep 4, 2024, 05:39 PM
The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against Kremlin propagandist Margarita Simonyan, Russia Today (RT) media group, and its subsidiaries, including RIA Novosti, Ruptly, and Sputnik. The sanctions target 10 individuals and two entities in response to Russian interference in the 2024 US election. The RT Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor-in-Chief are among those named in the sanctions. These actions complement the Department of Justice's law enforcement measures and the State Department's designation of Rossiaya Segodnya media group and its subsidiaries as foreign missions. The sanctions include the seizure of property or assets belonging to the individuals in America or those being held by others for them. Additionally, the DoJ has indicted two RT employees and seized 32 internet domains as part of efforts to curb Russian disinformation. AG Garland stated that the DoJ will 'aggressively counter' Russian efforts.
