The United States and Iraq have announced an agreement to conclude the American-led military mission against the Islamic State group. The coalition's operations will end over the next 12 months, with a complete withdrawal by the end of September 2025. Despite the cessation of coalition activities, American troops will remain stationed in Iraq until at least 2026, with the current figure of 2,500 troops subject to future adjustments. The deal also includes vacating some longstanding bases in Iraq. The transitional period in Iraq will begin in September this year and will end at the end of September 2025.
