VisitUS Drug Maker Cencora Reports February Data Breach Affecting Health Information of Half a Million Americans
May 24, 2024, 01:45 PM
US drug maker Cencora has disclosed that Americans’ personal and health information were stolen in a data breach that occurred in February. The breach has affected at least half a million people, though the company has not provided an exact number. This incident is part of a broader trend of increasing cybersecurity breaches in American health care systems, with ransomware attacks more than doubling between 2016 and 2021, putting the private health information of nearly 42 million people at risk. The stolen health information has been published online following a ransomware attack by MediSecure, and a crypto ransom group, LockBit, has leaked stolen pharmacy staff data, according to TechCrunch.
