US DOJ Charges Six Senior Hamas Leaders Over October 7 Attack in Israel

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced criminal charges against six senior Hamas leaders, including Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh, Mohammed Deif, Marwan Issa, Khaled Mashaal, and Ali, in connection with the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack in Israel. The charges, unsealed on Tuesday, accuse the leaders of terrorism, murder conspiracy, and sanctions-evasion. The attack resulted in the deaths of nearly 1,200 people, including at least 43 American citizens. The federal complaint, filed in New York City, marks the first criminal step by the Justice Department to hold individuals accountable for the attack.
