VisitUS Destroyers Repel Houthi Missile and Drone Attacks in Bab-el-Mandeb Strait
Nov 12, 2024, 08:07 PM
Yemeni Houthi rebels claimed to have launched missile and drone attacks against US naval vessels in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, including the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and two destroyers, the USS Stockdale and USS Spruance, as they transited the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait. The Pentagon confirmed that on Monday, the two destroyers were attacked with at least eight drones, five ballistic missiles, and three cruise missiles, and that US forces successfully repelled the attacks without damage or injuries. The US did not confirm any attack on the USS Abraham Lincoln. In response, US forces conducted airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, including missile launch platforms and storage facilities. The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, claimed responsibility for the attacks in a video message, stating that the operations lasted eight hours. These incidents mark a significant escalation in tensions between the Houthis and the United States in the Middle East.
