VisitUS and Allies Accuse China of Cyberattacks Directed by APT40 with Rapid Exploit Adaptation
Jul 9, 2024, 07:00 AM
The US and its allies have accused China’s Ministry of State Security of directing cyberattacks against government and private sector entities through a group of hackers known as Advanced Persistent Threat 40 (APT40). Global cybersecurity agencies have issued warnings about APT40’s rapid exploit adaptation, targeting vulnerabilities in widely-used software across multiple countries. Australian intelligence has also issued a warning about APT40 using old and forgotten devices to infiltrate sensitive networks. The New Zealand Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) has announced new hacking attempts by APT40 and advised companies to take precautions. A Financial Times report has named the Chinese state-backed group as a cyber hacker in its latest findings.
