UNLV starting quarterback Matthew Sluka has announced he will redshirt and not play for the rest of the season due to unfulfilled NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) commitments. Sluka, who led the team to a 3-0 start and a No. 23 ranking in the coaches poll, stated that he committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were not upheld after he enrolled. Reports indicate that Sluka, a transfer from Holy Cross, was verbally promised $100,000 by a UNLV assistant coach, but only received $3,000 for relocation. Sluka has also entered the transfer portal. UNLV has released a statement denying any formal NIL offers were made and interpreting Sluka's financial demands as a violation of NCAA pay-for-play rules and Nevada state law. Marcus Cromartie, Sluka's NIL representative, confirmed the details of the dispute.
