VisitUniversity of Wisconsin Regents Terminate Joe Gow's Tenure Over Pornography Involvement on Friday
Sep 27, 2024, 03:30 PM
The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents has terminated Joe Gow, former Chancellor of UW-La Crosse, from his tenured faculty position. The decision, made unanimously by the Board on Friday, comes after the public discovered Gow's involvement in producing sexually explicit content with his wife. Despite arguments from Gow and advocacy groups like FIRE that his actions were protected under academic freedom and free speech rights, the Regents decided to revoke his tenure. Gow, who served as chancellor for nearly 17 years, was previously removed from that role for the same reason. He has criticized the Regents, calling them a 'Board of Hypocrites' for allegedly backtracking on their commitment to academic freedom. The decision was announced in Madison, Wis.
