Jan 9, 2025, 09:59 PM
Universal's film 'Wicked' has achieved significant success in its digital release, earning $70 million in its first week of availability in the United States and Canada. The movie, which was released digitally on December 31, generated $26 million on its first day alone. This performance marks the largest first day and first week of digital sales for any Universal theatrical title to date. 'Wicked' has also performed well at the box office, with a total domestic gross of $453.19 million as of the latest reports, including $1.09 million on Tuesday and $764,000 on Wednesday, bringing the total from $452.43 million to its current figure. The film's strong digital sales underscore the growing importance of premium video-on-demand (PVOD) as a revenue stream for studios, which retain approximately 80% of online revenues compared to about 50% of box office returns.
