VisitUnitedHealthcare CEO Murder Suspect Mangione Arrested at McDonald's with 'Ghost Gun,' Fights Extradition
Dec 11, 2024, 01:00 PM
Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate from a prominent Maryland family, has been arrested in Pennsylvania in connection with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the Hilton Midtown Hotel in Manhattan on December 4. Mangione was apprehended at a McDonald's in Altoona after a customer recognized him and alerted authorities. He was found in possession of a "ghost gun," possibly made using a 3D printer, and a notebook detailing plans for the killing. His fingerprints matched those found at the crime scene. In court, Mangione shouted, "It's an insult to the intelligence of the American people," and struggled with deputies. His attorney, Thomas Dickey, stated that Mangione intends to fight extradition to New York and plans to plead not guilty. Mangione allegedly considered using a bomb to kill Thompson but decided against it to avoid harming innocent bystanders.
