UnitedHealth Group Appoints Tim Noel as New CEO of UnitedHealthcare Following Targeted Killing of Brian Thompson on Dec. 4
UnitedHealth Group has appointed Tim Noel as the new CEO of its insurance division, UnitedHealthcare, following the targeted killing of former CEO Brian Thompson on Dec. 4. Noel, who joined UnitedHealth Group in 2007, most recently served as the CEO of the company's Medicare and retirement business. The transition comes nearly two months after Thompson, aged 50 and a resident of Maple Grove, Minnesota, was fatally shot in Manhattan while heading to a company investor meeting. Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old suspect, has been charged with Thompson's murder and faces both federal and state charges. UnitedHealthcare, the nation's largest health insurer with over 50 million customers, covers more than 49 million people and is the biggest provider of Medicare Advantage plans, serving 7.8 million people. The parent company, UnitedHealth Group, also operates the Optum segment, which includes one of the nation's largest pharmacy benefit managers and provides care.
