VisitUN Vehicle Shot in Gaza by Israeli Forces; WFP Suspends Operations
Aug 28, 2024, 06:48 PM
The United Nations has reported that a clearly marked humanitarian vehicle was struck by Israeli military gunfire in Gaza. The vehicle was part of a convoy that had been fully coordinated with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Despite being hit at least 10 times, the two UN staff members inside were unharmed, thanks to the vehicle's bulletproof glass. Following the incident, the World Food Programme (WFP) announced a temporary suspension of its operations in Gaza. The WFP vehicle was approaching an Israeli military checkpoint near the Wadi Gaza bridge when it came under fire. This development has raised concerns about the safety of humanitarian missions in the region.
