VisitUN Claims 20,000 Unidentified Bodies at Bogotá Airport, Colombian Authorities Deny After Inspecting 27 Hangars
Dec 5, 2024, 11:30 PM
The United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) has reported the existence of 20,000 unidentified bodies stored in a hangar at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia. This claim has sparked confusion and controversy in Colombia, with both the Colombian Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences and OPAIN, the operator of El Dorado Airport, denying any knowledge of such a hangar. The UN's assertion was made during a visit to Colombia, highlighting the issue of enforced disappearances. However, the authorities involved have unanimously stated that they are unaware of any such situation at the airport. A multidisciplinary commission from the Procuraduría General de la Nación has inspected 27 hangares at El Dorado and found no evidence of the reported bodies, as detailed in the UN's CED report.
