UN Chief Urges De-escalation in Syria After 350 Israeli Airstrikes

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over the recent and extensive violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, particularly due to hundreds of Israeli airstrikes on various locations within the country. Guterres has called for an urgent de-escalation of violence on all fronts throughout Syria, highlighting the need for adherence to international law. The UN chief's remarks come in the wake of reports indicating that Israel has conducted approximately 350 air strikes in Syria in the last 48 hours, targeting military installations and potentially destroying around 80 percent of the country's military infrastructure. This military action has also been used by Israel to occupy further areas on the Syrian Golan Heights, including the buffer zone previously separating Syrian and Israeli forces.
