Aug 22, 2024, 06:10 AM
A Ukrainian drone attack targeted Russia's Marinovka Air Base in Volgograd Oblast, resulting in significant fires and explosions. The attack, which occurred overnight on August 21-22, was reported by multiple sources, including local residents and Russian media. The airbase, home to Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft of the 2nd Separate Reconnaissance Aviation Squadron and Su-34 fighter-bombers, experienced multiple secondary explosions and a large fireball was observed rising from the site. Volgograd Governor Andrei Bocharov confirmed a nighttime drone attack on the military facility. NASA's FIRMS fire monitoring system detected multiple fires across the base, corroborating reports of the attack's impact. The Ukrainian Security Service and Special Operations Forces were reportedly involved in the operation.
