VisitUkraine’s Population Declines by 10 Million Since February 24 Russian Invasion, UN Reports
Oct 22, 2024, 11:51 AM
The population of Ukraine has decreased by approximately 10 million people since Russia's invasion on February 24, 2022, according to the United Nations. This significant decline, which represents nearly a quarter of the country's population, is attributed to a combination of factors including refugees fleeing the country, low birth rates, and war casualties. Florence Bauer, the UNFPA's regional director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, highlighted these findings during a press briefing in Geneva. The birth rate in Ukraine has now plummeted to one child per woman.
