VisitUkraine Strikes Crimea's Largest Oil Terminal in Feodosia, Causing Massive Fire and Evacuations
Oct 7, 2024, 06:39 AM
An oil depot in the city of Feodosia in Russian-occupied Crimea caught fire after a reported overnight attack by Ukrainian forces. The Ukrainian military confirmed that it struck the Feodosia oil terminal, the largest petroleum transshipment hub in Crimea used to supply the Russian army. The facility had recently been upgraded with Pantsir and S-300 air defense units. The attack caused explosions and subsequent fires that damaged five fuel tanks, completely destroying two and damaging three others. Smoke was observed rising in three pillars, indicating multiple sources of ignition. Three people were reported injured, and approximately 300 residents were evacuated due to heavy smoke. A man-made emergency was declared in Feodosia as firefighters struggled to control the blaze, which is visible from tens of kilometers away. The Russian Emergencies Ministry is working to extinguish the fire, and the incident has disrupted train services in the area.
