VisitUkraine Seeks THAAD, Aegis Systems to Counter Russian Missiles
Nov 22, 2024, 01:12 PM
Ukraine currently lacks the capability to shoot down intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and is seeking to address this gap. The United States recently sent Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) systems to Israel, which are capable of intercepting ICBMs. Apart from the USA, THAAD is also operated by Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Ukraine plans to initiate talks with its partners, including the United States, to counter Russia's new experimental missiles, according to sources in the General Staff. Options under consideration include obtaining THAAD systems or upgrading existing Patriot systems. Discussions are also ongoing regarding the provision of Aegis systems to Ukraine, as reported by Ukrinform.
