VisitUkraine Seeks Advanced Air Defense Systems After Intercepting 50 of 73 Russian Drones

Ukraine has initiated discussions with international partners to acquire advanced air defense systems following a recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) strike by Russia. President Volodymyr Zelensky has directed Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to engage with partners on this matter. The need for enhanced air defenses was underscored after Ukraine's air defense units intercepted 50 of 73 drones launched by Russia overnight, with 23 drones breaching the defensive shield. Ukrainian Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of rejecting Russia's blackmail and boosting support for Ukraine. Zelensky highlighted the capability of existing air defense systems to counter threats like Russia's Oreshnik missile and stressed the urgency of strengthening Ukraine's air shield.
