Aug 4, 2024, 02:27 PM
Ukraine has received its first batch of U.S.-built F-16 fighter jets, marking a significant milestone in its defense against Russian forces. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the arrival of the aircraft, which began performing combat missions immediately. The initial delivery includes 10 of the 79 promised jets, with 20 expected to be operational by the end of 2024. The remaining jets will be delivered in batches throughout 2025. The F-16s, equipped with AIM-120 AMRAAM and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, have been seen flying over Odesa and Kyiv. The transfer of the jets involved transportation from Arizona to Europe via Antonov Airlines. Zelensky hailed the arrival as a new stage for Ukraine's military, emphasizing the importance of continued support from international partners, including Denmark and the Netherlands. The jets arrived on the last day of July and were showcased during Air Force Day celebrations.
