May 28, 2024, 07:34 AM
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Belgium on May 28 to sign a bilateral security agreement with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. The agreement includes the delivery of 30 F-16 fighter jets and a commitment of at least €977 million in Belgian military aid to Ukraine this year. Belgium also pledged to support Ukraine for a ten-year term. Zelensky's visit included a tour of the Melsbroek military airbase, where he was briefed on preparations for the delivery of the fighter jets. This agreement makes Belgium the 11th country to sign such an accord with Ukraine, following Spain, the U.K., Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Finland, and Latvia. During his visit, Zelensky also met with King Philippe to discuss Belgium's military support for Ukraine.
