VisitUK to Double Medical School Places by 2031, Adds 350 Spots for 2025
May 13, 2024, 07:09 AM
The UK government has announced the allocation of 350 additional medical school places for the 2025/26 academic year as part of its NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, which aims to double medical school places by 2031. Health Minister Maria Caulfield highlighted this move as a significant step towards addressing staffing challenges in the NHS. Despite this increase, there has been criticism regarding the government's failure to meet previous targets, as it had promised to deliver 8,200 places but currently trains only 7,500 annually. Additionally, 205 places have already been confirmed for this September. The new allocations are distributed to various medical schools across the country, enhancing access to medical education.
