VisitUK Passes DMCC Bill to Regulate Apple and Google Before July Election, Allowing Fortnite on iOS
May 24, 2024, 10:41 AM
The UK has passed a bill similar to the EU's Digital Markets Act, aimed at regulating tech giants like Apple and Google. The new legislation, known as the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers (DMCC) Bill, seeks to prevent these companies from favoring their own app stores and ensure they act in users' best interests. This bill empowers the UK Competition and Markets Authority to enforce these regulations. After years of promising legislation, the UK has sped up the process to get this bill passed before the UK's July election. As a result of this legislation, games like Fortnite and new app stores will be allowed on iOS devices in the UK. Epic Games Store and Fortnite are set to arrive on iOS in the UK in the second half of 2025.
