VisitUK Loses Track of 3,557 of 5,700 Migrants Set for Rwanda Deportation by 2024
May 1, 2024, 08:40 AM
The UK government is facing significant challenges in its controversial plan to deport thousands of asylum seekers to Rwanda. Reports indicate that the Home Office has lost contact with over half of the 5,700 migrants designated for deportation. Of these, only 2,143 are regularly reporting to the Home Office and can be located for detention. This situation has sparked criticism from various quarters, with some accusing the government of losing control of the asylum system and jeopardizing public safety. In response, Health Secretary Victoria Atkins has asserted that the missing asylum seekers will be located and deported by the end of 2024 as planned.
