VisitUK Imposes Largest Sanctions Yet on 18 Russian Oil Tankers and 4 LNG Vessels
Oct 17, 2024, 11:34 AM
The UK government has imposed sanctions on 18 Russian oil tankers and 4 liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This move, described as the largest package of sanctions to date, targets Russia's 'shadow fleet' and aims to curb oil revenues. The sanctioned vessels will be banned from UK ports and will be unable to access British maritime services. Additionally, three UK government bodies will act to challenge vessels hauling fuel for Moscow in the English Channel with dubious insurance. For the first time, the UK has also restricted vessels used to export LNG from Gazprom’s Portovaya plant. This is the largest sanctions yet on Russia’s oil tanker fleet.
