UK Government to Provide Lifetime Support, Up to £2.6M, for Infected Blood Victims Starting October

The UK government has announced that victims of the infected blood scandal will receive financial support for life as part of a multi-billion-pound compensation scheme, set to start in October. This decision comes after decades of campaigning by victims and follows recommendations from the Infected Blood Inquiry. The scheme includes additional payments, with some victims potentially receiving up to £2.6 million each. However, there is criticism over the £15,000 payout for individuals who attended Treloar’s boarding school, which some have called 'insulting'. The government plans to begin these payments by the end of the year, with Cabinet Office Minister Nick Thomas-Symonds and Paymaster General Nick Thomas-Symonds emphasizing the importance of listening to victims' voices, including bereaved partners.
