VisitUK Government Pledges Funding to End HIV by 2030 at World AIDS Day Event
Nov 28, 2024, 08:26 PM
The UK government has announced new funding to support its goal of ending all new transmissions of HIV in England by 2030. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made the announcement during a reception at Downing Street to mark World AIDS Day, the first such event held since 2007. The initiative builds on significant progress in reducing HIV cases in the UK, particularly among gay men, through the use of PrEP and improved testing and treatment strategies. The government aims to strengthen efforts to ensure successful treatment, which eliminates transmission risks, and to honor the memory of those lost to HIV over the past 40 years. Labour leader Keir Starmer reaffirmed the 2030 target, emphasizing his commitment to the fight against HIV. Danny Beales also expressed his dedication to ensuring the government delivers on this promise.
