VisitU.S. Population Surpasses 340 Million with 8.6 Million Increase, Driven by 2.8 Million Immigration in 2024
Dec 19, 2024, 04:46 PM
The U.S. Census Bureau has reported that the U.S. population surpassed 340 million in mid-2024, marking an increase of 8.6 million since April 2020. This growth is attributed primarily to immigration, which accounted for 7.2 million of the increase, while natural increase contributed 1.4 million. Immigration estimates for 2024 have been revised to 2.8 million, up from 1.1 million for 2023, reflecting a significant adjustment in methodology that now includes administrative data on humanitarian migrants. The population growth rate is the highest in 23 years, with Florida, Texas, and Utah identified as the fastest-growing states, although the District of Columbia outpaced them with a growth rate of 2.2% last year. The Census Bureau's revisions also indicate that net immigration estimates for 2022 and 2023 were adjusted upward by nearly 2 million.
