Nov 26, 2024, 09:46 PM
A senior U.S. official has announced plans to support the Lebanese army in maintaining the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. The U.S. will provide equipment training and financial support through a military technical committee that includes personnel from other nations. The official emphasized that there will be no deployment of U.S. combat troops in the region. This initiative aims to deter potential violations of the ceasefire, with a commitment to address any breaches immediately. Additionally, U.S. and French military personnel will facilitate coordination among the Lebanese Army, UNIFIL, and the Israeli military to monitor the ceasefire's implementation. The U.S. is also establishing a monitoring mechanism to ensure compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which outlines the principles for the ceasefire. The official stated that both Lebanese and Israeli sides have rights to address any violations of the ceasefire agreement.
