Jan 11, 2025, 08:35 PM
A sophisticated smuggling tunnel was discovered connecting Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, to El Paso, Texas, following a joint operation by U.S. and Mexican law enforcement. The tunnel, located near Gate 28 of the border fence, was equipped with lighting, ventilation, and wood supports, and was used for smuggling migrants and drugs. The structure, approximately 40 meters long, was found hidden under the bed of the Rio Bravo and led into the public storm drain system of El Paso. The discovery was made after authorities received a tip about the tunnel's existence, and it has been described as a 'historic' find by U.S. Border Patrol. The tunnel's entrance on the Mexican side was near Boulevard IV Siglos, and it was sealed off after the discovery. Authorities from both countries are continuing their investigation to determine the tunnel's origin and identify those involved. The tunnel, measuring 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide, was also used for the sex trafficking of Venezuelan women.
