VisitU.S. Declares Genocide by Sudan's RSF in Darfur, Sanctions Leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and UAE Companies
Jan 7, 2025, 04:45 PM
The United States has determined that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias in Sudan have committed genocide in the Darfur region, according to Secretary of State Antony Blinken. This conclusion follows reports of systematic killings of men and boys, including infants, on an ethnic basis, and the deliberate targeting of women and girls from specific ethnic groups for rape and other forms of sexual violence. The RSF has also been found guilty of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing. The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, and seven UAE-based companies linked to the RSF. These measures aim to hold accountable those responsible for the atrocities in Sudan, where the conflict has escalated into the world's largest humanitarian catastrophe, displacing millions and causing widespread famine.
