U.S. Approves $220M and $300M Arms Sales to Taiwan Amid Rising Tensions with China

The United States State Department has approved a $220 million military arms deal with Taiwan, a move that has been met with strong opposition from China. In addition, Taiwan has welcomed a separate $300 million arms sale from the U.S., emphasizing the commitment to its defense and stability amid rising tensions with China. The arms sale includes F-16 spare parts and relevant services. China has urged the U.S. to fully recognize the dangerous ambitions of Taiwan independence separatists and to honor the one-China principle by stopping arms sales to Taiwan. The Chinese Defense Ministry has expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition, vowing to strengthen military training and exercises to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Taiwan highlighted the U.S. commitment through the Taiwan Relations Act and Six Assurances.
