VisitU.S. Agencies: Russia Behind Fake Video of Haitians Illegally Voting for Harris in Georgia; Officials Urge Removal
Nov 1, 2024, 04:30 PM
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has warned of a fake video circulating online that falsely claims to show Haitian immigrants receiving driver's licenses and voting illegally multiple times for Kamala Harris in Georgia's election. The video is part of a disinformation campaign aimed at sowing discord and chaos ahead of the November 5 election. Raffensperger stated that the disinformation is likely "foreign interference" linked to Russia. U.S. intelligence agencies, including the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), confirmed that Russian influence actors manufactured the video. They also attributed another fake video, alleging a Harris campaign associate taking a bribe from a U.S. entertainer, to the same source. Officials are urging social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and its owner Elon Musk, to remove the videos to prevent the spread of misinformation. The agencies emphasized that the disinformation is intended to undermine confidence in the security of U.S. election infrastructure.
