VisitTwo Teenage Girls Drown at Coney Island Beach in New York, Police Say
Jul 6, 2024, 10:20 AM
Two teenage girls, aged 17 and 18, drowned while swimming at Coney Island Beach in New York, police say. The incident occurred around 8 PM on Friday evening, and the girls were found on the shoreline approximately one hour later. Both were pronounced dead at South Brooklyn Health. Initial reports suggested a 24-year-old man was also missing, but this was later found to be unfounded. The drownings happened as a thunderstorm rolled into the area, and rip currents were reported off the NYC coast. This is the second fatal swimming incident at a New York City beach in less than a month. Thanks to NYPD ESU and FDNY EMS for their rapid response.
