Oct 11, 2024, 02:30 AM
At least one person was killed and five others injured following a hydrogen sulfide gas release at Pemex's Deer Park refinery near Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, prompting authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order for residents in Deer Park and parts of Pasadena, which was later lifted after air monitoring by Harris County Pollution Control. Pemex reported that two people were believed to have died, and one person was airlifted via Lifeflight. Highway 225 was temporarily closed as emergency responders diverted traffic and attended the scene. The Deer Park refinery, with a capacity of 312,500 barrels per day, is operated by the Mexican national oil company Pemex.
