VisitTwitter's New Terms Allow AI Use of User Content Without Opt-Out; $15,000 Fine for Excessive Viewing
Oct 17, 2024, 12:12 AM
Twitter, now known as X, has updated its Terms of Service (TOS) and Privacy Policy, set to take effect on November 15. The new policies grant the platform a royalty-free license to use any user-generated content, including posts, images, videos, and audio, for training AI models such as Grok. Users can no longer opt out of having their content used for AI or generative training. Additionally, the updated TOS include a clause stating that users may be "jointly and severally liable" to Twitter for "liquidated damages" of $15,000 if they view more than 1,000,000 posts in a single day, which the company describes as "a reasonable estimate of our damages" and "not a penalty."
