Turkey Targets PKK/YPG in Syria for 2025, Sees U.S. as Sole Counterpart

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during a press conference in Istanbul, outlined Turkey's foreign policy priorities for 2025, emphasizing the elimination of terrorism in Syria as a key objective. Fidan stated that Turkey has the capacity, power, and determination to eliminate all threats to its existence at their source, specifically targeting the PKK/YPG terror group and its affiliates in Syria. He also mentioned that Turkey has no territorial ambitions in any country and no hidden agenda, focusing on peace, cooperation, solidarity, and prosperity as the main axes of its foreign policy. Fidan criticized countries that attempt to advance their interests in Syria by using U.S. power, particularly calling out France for its stance on deploying troops to the Syrian border. He stressed that Turkey's only counterpart in this matter is the U.S., and reiterated Turkey's commitment to fighting terrorism, including both PKK/YPG and ISIS, with the same determination.
