VisitTurkey Brokers Historic Peace Deal Between Somalia and Ethiopia Over Somaliland

Turkey has successfully mediated a historic reconciliation between Somalia and Ethiopia, resolving a year-long dispute over Ethiopia's desire for port access to the Horn of Africa, specifically related to the Somaliland region. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a joint declaration signed by both nations, marking the first step towards a new beginning based on peace and cooperation. The agreement includes commitments to respect each other's territorial integrity and to work towards common prosperity. Technical negotiations are set to begin by the end of February 2025, facilitated by Turkey, with the aim of concluding within four months. Both Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed gratitude to Turkey for its efforts in resolving the conflict.
