VisitTrump to Begin Immigration Crackdown on Day 1, Advocacy Groups and Democratic Leaders Prepare Lawsuits, Military to Assist
Nov 18, 2024, 08:13 PM
President-elect Donald Trump is set to begin his immigration crackdown on Day 1 of his presidency. Advocacy groups, Democratic leaders, and civil-liberties lawyers are preparing lawsuits to oppose Trump's plan to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. The ACLU is suing ICE for records on how its air travel infrastructure could be expanded to facilitate mass detentions and deportations. Trump has confirmed that he will use the military if necessary and may declare a national emergency to carry out the mass deportations. In 2023 alone, planes chartered by ICE Air Operations deported more than 140,000 people.
